Comfort Zone (Part 4)

Matthew 4:4

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

It is written!

When was the last time you looked at an untoward and unfavourable situation and said 'it is written' or said 'this is what the word of God says'; and then stood you ground no matter what happened. Here is our Master Jesus in Matthew chapter 4, having fasted for 40 days and at a most vulnerable state - hungry. The enemy, the devil then used the same situation to tempt Jesus saying if you are the son of God, command this stone to become bread. Notice Jesus' answer from our bible passage today - 'It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God'. It is written! (Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3). It is written! Satan tempted Jesus thrice and in each case Jesus replied with the word of God, saying...it is written! You see, God has given us His word and promises for our own benefit. Romans 15:4 tells us 'For whatsoever things were written afore time were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope'. Notice the expression 'whatsoever things were written'. If only we would be immersed with what is written; know and understand what is written; speak and act on what is written, then victory will always be ours. For if it is written, then it is guaranteed. Often, we pay so much attention to friends and families advise about our situation. We even allow scientific and medical opinion on most matters, which isn’t in itself bad; but do we ever make out time to search out what is written in the Bible (Gods Word) concerning the situation? Remember that if it is written, then victory is guaranteed. 'It is written' brings us into the arena of faith, where our enemy, the devil stands no chance at all; victory for us is guaranteed. 1 John 5:4 says 'For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith'. In the arena of faith, the enemy has no chance, every situation bows to our bold faith in God and victory is always ours. You see, everything is naked and subject to the word of God. Hebrews 4:12-13 attests to this 'For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do'. And Hebrews 1:3 affirms 'Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power,...'. Everything answers to the word of God. It is your time to take a stand. It is time to search out what is written; know and understand what is written about that situation; speak and act on what is written!
