The Word Of God Is My Delight

Psalms 119:162

I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.

Have you ever found a great spoil in the real sense of it? Have you been opportune to encounter a fortune? How did you feel when suddenly you find yourself in great wealth? Or could you imagine what it feels like to find a great spoil or even finding a great idea? What a joy there is. Great spoil might sound or appear relative to some. However, a great spoil is great in the true sense of it. Great spoils can bring great joy and pleasure to whoever

finds it.

From our passage today Psalms 119:162, the psalmist simply describes the way he feels about the word of God. 'I rejoice at thy word'. And he, the psalmist goes on to make a wonderful comparison to something we can identify with it. '...as one the findeth great spoil'. Studying and searching the scriptures must have been something of great pleasure to him. Psalms 119:97 says 'O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day'. What a wonderful attitude towards the word of God.

As children of God, such should be our attitude towards the scriptures...the word of God. You see, when you delight in something, that influences your approach towards it. When you delight in something, no one prompts you to engage with or in it. You simply get into it with pleasure. Notice what Psalms 1:2 says 'But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night'. His delight! In other words it is his pleasure to study and meditate on the word of God. Jeremiah 15:16 further buttresses this 'Thy word were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts'. When the word of God becomes a delight, our approach towards it will be different. We will rejoice at it.

Like the words in the song by Mike Murdock:

I love sitting at your feet.

I love hearing what you say.

I love knowing your desire.

I am pleasured to obey.

Your favour is like sun rise, driving all my nights away.

I love sitting at your feet every single day.

I love sitting at your feet every single day.

Think about this for a moment:

How do you feel when you approach the scriptures?

Do you miss the scriptures if for any reason you are unable to study it in a day or few days?

When we delight in the word of God, we can say like Jeremiah 'thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart'

Have a wonderful week and God bless you?
