GUARD AGAINST ANXIETY

And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. Matthew 24:6 (NKJV)

It is such a blessing and an assurance to know that the scriptures (Gods Holy Word) holds the keys to life and all we need to live a peaceful and victorious life in Christ. The Word of God is so true and timeless if only we can give ourselves to spending time with these precious words. They are real, pure, relevant, ever true and precious.

Its been over two thousand years ago, yet the Word of God still speaks. Today, God through His Word is telling us to guard our hearts against anxiety. Sometimes, its not the war or the rumours of wars that kill, it's the anxiety and ambiguously made-up pictures that are allowed to settle in the minds of men that kills and even faster. So God is telling us today, the end is not yet. Guard your hearts from stressful and anxious thoughts that make the situation bigger than they really are.

This is not denying the existence of wars or the reality of persecutions or trials that we might face as christians, but it is teaching us not to magnify them in such a way that they result in anxiety, heart palpitations, panic attacks and stress. Yes, there are real time petrifying situations that can trigger these reactions, but let us instil the words of Jesus in our hearts today.

Jesus said: …See that you are not troubled.

This might just be a call to apply 2 Corinthians chapter 10 verse 5 as an antidote to anxiety.

2 Corinthians 10:6 (KJV): Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Jesus is giving you and I this responsibility today, that we cast down, bring to subjection, put under maximum control, and minimise any contrary thought in our minds that could lead to anxiety. We can do this by applying 2 Corinthians 10 verse 5 as stated above and by instilling peace-giving scriptures.

Psalm 23:4

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (KJV)

Isaiah 41:10

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (KJV)

Psalm 121:1-8

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. (KJV)

Remember Philippians 4 verse 6 which says: Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. KJV)

By staying connected to Jesus Christ and by meditating on His true, timeless and Holy Word, we can have Gods peace deep within our hearts and soul even when there is war and trouble without.
