The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. Matthew 8:8 (KJV)

These were the words of a centurion in the bible days. He must have been very caring and concerned about his soldiers. This can be seen in his attitude towards one soldier of his, who was terribly ill of the palsy, being tormented very frequently. The centurion sort for the help of Jesus, and he explained the situation to Him. “my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.” He said in verse 6. And Jesus replied him and agreed to follow him home to heal the soldier.

However, this centurion was very specific and intentional in his engagement with Jesus Christ. He didn’t want any delay. He didn’t want any theatrics from the watching crowd. He understood Jesus’ authority over all things- animate and inanimate. He had an insight of the power of Jesus’ instant prescription and he chose that option. Hence our bible reading today: …speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

Do you know that Jesus Christ has the perfect prescription for every situation in all our lives? Do you know that The Word of God is quick and powerful, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart? (Hebrews 4:12). Do you know that in Gods word dwells the instant answer to every question and perfect prescription for every illness?

This centurion knew this. He had seen and experienced earthly structures, and earthly principles work. He knew heavenly and certainly Gods divine Word will work even more perfectly. So he cashed-in on Gods best; His divine prescription, His word.

The bible says that Jesus marvelled that the centurion chose the best option. He chose The Word over the process. He chose The Word over fame and human requirement. He chose Gods perfect prescription. And Gods prescription delivered according to his expectation as it always surely does.

And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour. Matthew 8: 13 (KJV)

Gods perfect prescription always delivers at the exact time.

…so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11 (NIV)

Have you got a need that requires this prescription? Today, God is telling us that His prescription can be trusted. There is no counterfeit part to His word. His word is authentic, real, powerful and it works!

J.M. Scriven, in his song to his mother in 1855, asserts “what needless pain we bear when we do not carry everything to God in prayer”. After so many decades, whenever we sing that song/hymn (what a friend we have in Jesus), Scriven still prescribes Gods perfect prescription to us today- Jesus Christ (The Word).

Does it appears that there is a delay in its manifestation? Stay strong and rooted in this knowledge, His word cannot return to Him void. It must accomplish… Isaiah 55:11.

Find, act and apply Gods perfect prescription today, and watch it bud and florish. Amen.

May the peace of God fill your heart and soul today as you meditate on His words, Amen.

God bless you.
