Words Are Powerful Pt 3

“A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭15:1‬ ‭What we say and the content of our words are as important as how we say it. Hence our expression, tone and emotion during our communication matter....and a lot. Notice the expression in the verse we just read: 'A soft answer turns away wrath.....' In other words a soft answer or a gentle word has the capacity to turn away wrath: decimate anger. A soft answer is that powerful, that it will disarm the most furious. Ridiculous you it may sound but really, the Word of God says so and it is so. On the other hand, a harsh word or grievous words also have the capacity to stir up anger and wrath. Things can really go wrong with harsh words. Most well set up organisations around the world invest so much in effective communication because good communication has great impart. Those in business can tell us more on how effective communication can improve sales tremendously. Customers have stopped patronizing some businesses because of how they were spoken to....they simply go somewhere else. Those in health care services can attest to improvement in relationships between patient and healthcare providers as a result of good or improved communication. The tone and emotion in our words have the potential of improving our relationships and daily lives. Again we have a responsibility here, as our words will either be soft or harsh in our expressions. Speaking with measured emotion and tone of voice can be a great asset. Sometimes it might mean deferring the conversation if one is angry. This is where self awareness comes into play and may involve training oneself to restrain at such instances. “The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭15:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬. Again, this verse buttresses the effect of our expression in words. There is need for self awareness in being able to communicate with measured emotion.

Take some time to memorize and meditate on Proverbs 15:1...'a soft answer'. Think about what the effects of your words are. A soft answer: its great potential and benefit.

I pray that The Lord will help us all as we improve in our communication and influence our world in Jesus name. Amen.

Have a great week.

God bless you. Amen.
