Should I Forgive (Pt 5)

“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ God forgets! As children of God and as Christians, this should be our conviction - that God forgets! But someone would say how do I know for sure? Because God says so; because The Word of God says so. What does God forget? Notice in the passage we just read "I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins". 'Our transgressions' 'Our sins' Our past mistakes and shortcomings'. God is saying that He blots them out and will not remember them. God forgets what He has forgiven! How often do we feel condemned and bound by our past experiences, hurts and mistakes? How often do we struggle in our prayers when we are in the presence of our Heavenly Father? How often do we continue to repeatedly confess a wrong doing or mistake? How often have we allowed the enemy- satan to continuously remind us and make us feel guilty of our past experiences? The fact, based on the scripture above, is that what God forgives, He keeps no record of! If God keeps no record of our past, why should we? We need to take The Word of God for what it truly and simply is. We need to be resolute on the assurance that when we come to God in repentance, He forgives us and keeps no record of our past, even when the enemy tries to hold us victims of our past. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”‭‭ II Corinthians‬ ‭5:17 NKJV. In Christ, our past experiences, transgressions, hurts and mistakes are certainly past. They are all old things! God does not remember them as the bible says. Psalms‬ ‭103:12‬ ‭NKJV further buttresses this “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.” ‭‭‬‬ Also notice from Isaiah 43:25 that God didn’t say He wouldn’t remember our sins or iniquities for our sake (although we get the benefit of it); He said for His sake He will not remember our sins. Why? So He can bless us. So He can help us. So there is no hindrance between us and Him. So He can demonstrate His great mercy and love on our behalf. This is why forgiveness is paramount for us as believers, so there is no hindrance between us and our Heavenly Father. Mark‬ ‭11:25-26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ encourages us thus: "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses". Do we feel hunted by our past experiences? Do we feel burdened by the guilt of the past? Do we feel troubled by past hurts? As children of God, it is time for us to let go of our past (as Jesus Christ has,) so we can walk in the realty of forgiveness which we have received of God when we came to Him. Accepting this and acting on this truth also helps us forgive and keep no record of the offences and wrong done to us by others. Truly, as the bible says, God has forgiven us and keeps no record of our past. So as we go into this new week, let us live in peace as we remember that we have been forgiven and that in Christ, our past is as far from us as the east is from the west. And may the Lord help us do likewise to our fellow neighbors in Jesus name. Amen. Have a wonderful week and God bless you.
