For God Is My Father (Pt 2)

Genesis 5:22-24

Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God after the birth of Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters.

So all the days of Enoch were 365 years.

And Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God; and he was not, for God took him [home with Him].

I'll walk with Him

One of the most important element in any relationship is fellowship. Fellowship readily creates an avenue where individual parties get to communicate, know and understand one another better, and in turn strengthens the basis of the relationship.

The passage we just read in Genesis 5:22-24, identified a man named Enoch, who like every one of us had a life, a career or business and a family with sons and daughters (the bible didn't say how many - but the man had sons and daughters, meaning he had responsibilities). The passage then notes that in addition to living, he walked with God. He had a relationship with God the father which translated into habitual fellowship. Habitual in the sense that the relationship he had with God was a daily, continuous affair. He had time for God and it was a daily routine - habitual! Enoch chose to walk with Him.

How often have we been so busy and involved in activities of life that we don't have time for God our father! How often have we heard people say 'I don't have time. I have to go or be at work. I have to look after my children. I have to do this! I have to do that'. And we come up with several reasons to explain our decline in relationship with God. Our prayer life is getting less and less significant. No more time to study the scriptures (even when we do, we do it while engaged in other things without giving it our undivided attention). We don't have time anymore for personal worship in God's presence, where we are just alone with Him.

Genesis 3:8 also tells us about the experience of Adam and Eve with God. "And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden". Notice the expression - '....in the garden in the cool of the day...' This meant that there was a particular time of the day when God comes around in the garden...and they heard Him coming. What a wonderful experience it would be when we develop this kind of relationship and walk with God our father.

There is need for us to create time for personal fellowship with God our father. Jesus our example created time for fellowship. Mark 1:35 ...And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. Notice again - 'in the morning' 'a great while before day' 'a solitary place'. Wow! Away from distractions or interference. Away from the crowd. Just to be alone with God the father. What a desire for fellowship! What a commitment to fellowship.

What would be the best decision we can make today regarding our relationship with God. How about creating more time and space for Him, for the sole purpose of worship, personal bible study and prayer. It is possible to walk with Him even in all our busy schedules...in a habitual manner. And that begins with a choice...'I'll walk with Him'
