Happy Days (Pt 5)

July 2, 2017

Psalms 118:24

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it'.

Good morning!

Have you ever stopped to think why you say 'good morning' when you meet people in the morning? Have you ever wondered why this simple act of courtesy has been handed over from generations to generations? Why do we make every effort to ensure that little children learn it? Well, I haven't really considered it myself until recently.

Last week I met one of my clients at my workplace waiting at the reception to be attended to. I greeted him while I walked pass saying 'Good morning, this is a good morning' and I waved to the outside which was dull and cloudy. To my surprise, he replied with a smile 'Good morning to you too'. And added 'Every morning is a good morning'. And that hit me! I had expected a response like 'good morning but what a dull day, what a cloudy and rainy day'. Instead his response got me thinking. What a good response to life - 'every morning is a good morning'

Our passage today, Psalms 118:24 says 'This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it'. This is the day. That means today. Think about this for a moment! You can wake up every morning and say TODAY is the Lord's day. Then notice what the Psalmist says '.....we will rejoice and be glad in it'. Wonderful indeed! Every day is the Lord's but we wake every day and choose to rejoice and be glad in it. Hence, we can confidently say 'good morning', for every morning is good.

You see, 'good morning' can become prophetic in the light Psalms 118:24. For there is something special about the morning...awaking to a new day. Psalms 30:5 says '.......weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning'. Do you see that? Joy comes! Oh hallelujah! Joy comes when? In the morning.

Lamentations 3:22-23 gives us a highlight of how special and powerful the morning can be. 'It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness'. Wow! Notice what it says, the mercy of the Lord is new every morning. Not some mornings! Not every other morning! Not if the weather is dull, cloudy, sunny or bright! But it says every morning. You see, there is something special about the morning! It is the beginning of a new day, with new prospects, with new opportunities and possibilities. Hence, we need to wake up every morning in anticipation of renewed mercy. We need to rise up every morning looking forward to renewed mercy that is independent of any prevailing circumstance or situation we may find ourselves in. '....They are new every morning...'

Every day can be a happy day, in which to rejoice and be glad. When next you say good morning, remember it is the Lord's day an do not let any current circumstance keep you from the mercies and opportunities released into the day by God himself.

Be glad in today! Have a wonderful week and God bless you.
