Walk In Love (Pt 2)

April 21, 2017

Walk in love Part 2

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Love in action

What does love look like? Can we easily recognise love in our everyday life? Can we take a look around where we are right now, be it our homes, our neighbourhood, our workplace, 'our church', is there love? Let's be honest for one moment in reflection.

You see, love is seen in our behaviour and how we treat people. Notice the words in the passage we just read - 'My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.' Not in words but in action. Anyone and everyone can say 'I love you' but when the need arises, most are gone without delay. What needs you may ask? The need to show kindness; the need to show mercy; the need to show understanding; the need to give or share our substance; the need to forgive and the list continues.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 tells us clearly and exactly what love is. "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

You see, if any of these are seen or noticed in our behaviour and how we treat people  in our daily lives, then that is love in action. For example, the passage says love suffers long. This attribute when put in action, enables us to make room for others mistakes and shortcomings. Long suffering is an attribute of love and because love never fails, long suffering will always win in every situation. With long suffering, many ended relationships today could have survived.

Let us take some time to reflect and feed on each of these individual attributes of love. Let us measure up to these attributes and allow them shine forth in our homes, families, communities, workplace and everyday life.
May the Lord help us as we walk in love in Jesus name. Amen

Have a wonderful week and God bless you.
